Pecha Kucha Night 12 (70 photos)
Pecha Kucha Night 12 (PKN 12) at the Garneau Theatre featured a wide array of presentations. With a sold out crowd of 527 people in attendance, PKN 12 was an amazing night! Thanks to all the presenters, our volunteers, the PKN organizing committee, Metro Cinema, our sponsors Capital Power, Graphos, the City of Edmonton and our drink sponsors Wild Rose Brewery and Steam Whistle.
And all the drink proceeds will be donated to FAVA, Edmonton Bicycle Commuters and the Edmonton Food Bank.

Tip Of The Iceberg Festival (45 photos)
Edmonton Next Gen invited Old Ugly Recording Company to curate a one-day festival showcasing some of the Edmonton's best independent musical artists.
The festival was named Tip Of The Iceberg to show that there's a lot more talent where this lineup came from!

From January 26 to 29th, Edmonton’s NextGen was proud to be programming partner of the Community Centre Pavilion at METROPOLIS, Edmonton’s newest celebration of winter culture. With a focus on engaging Edmontonians, ages 18 – 40, in making the City of Edmonton a place they choose to work, live, learn and play, the four days of programming feature a Best of NextGen schedule of events plus a variety of creative collaborations with next generation community organizations.

MEAET at Metropolis (33 photos)
MEÆT is an Edmonton initiative to bring people together for a meal, and together fund home-grown projects.
You can: (1) apply to have a project funded and come enjoy dinner, and present your project or (2) come enjoy dinner, experience the presentations, vote for your favorite, and donate $10 to fund something awesome.
The best presentation (as determined by the votes) receives the night’s funding.
On January 27, 2012, Edmonton's Next Gen hosted MEAET 1.5 as part of their programming of the METROPOLIS winter festival. Over $800 was in the pot of money donated by attendees.
Congrats to Ryan Spotowski who had the best pitch on his Light Transmitting Concrete Project.

Pecha Kucha: Metropolis (53 photos)
From January 26 to 29th, Edmonton’s NextGen was proud to program the Community Centre Pavilion at METROPOLIS, Edmonton’s newest celebration of winter culture.
Pecha Kucha Nights have become one of Edmonton’s NextGen’s most popular and enduring public events. Japanese for the phrase “the sound of chitchat”, Pecha Kucha Nights feature presentations on local ideas, projects and musings in the 20 slides x 20 second per slide format made popular world-wide by Klein Dytham Architecture.
At METROPOLIS, the public the invited to attend Pecha Kucha: Metropolis featuring “best of” presentations from the past 11 installments of the event plus fresh ideas.

MEAET 1.0 (68 photos)
After a succesful pilot project in August, Edmonton’s NextGen presented MEÆT1.0 – MICRO-FUNDING TOGETHER, November 26, 2011, 6:30 PM at Latitude 53.
A project of ENGAGE, producers of the popular DIYalouge forums, MEÆT brings local creatives and new philanthropists together for an evening of short proposals followed by a shared meal. At the end of the meal, all diners vote on which proposal receives the pot of funds to move forward with their project: immediate funding for awesome ideas! MEÆT1.0 is hosted by Nate Box of Elm Café.

Edmonton’s NextGen presents DIYalogue, a speed-dating cultural mix-and-mingle in the style of NextGen’s popular Candi{date} series.
Looking for a collaborative space to share ideas and gain advice on launching them into action? DIYalogue connects Edmonton's established cultural entrepreneurs with emerging, young, creatives in 15 minute one-on-one mentorship mini-dates. DIYalogue explores the potential for individual success in the creative industries through unique partnerships and community support.
DIYalogue took place on Wednesday, November 9 at the Yellowhead Brewery, 10229 105 St NW.

Over 600 people attended PKN 11 on Sept 14 at the Myer Horowitz Theatre. There was a great diversity of presentations which made this PKN one of our best yet. DIYalogue (5 photos)
On Sunday, June19, ten established and two dozen would-be cultural entrepreneurs filled the main room of the ARTery with the chatter of DIYalogue - a speed-dating style mentoring event. Participants - ranging from fashion designers, to magazine publishers to festival organizers - shared strategies and lessons learned on getting creative enterprises off the ground.
For those who weren't able to make it out, another edition is already in the works for November.

NextGen and Pride Parade 2011 (24 photos)
Saturday, June 11th was NextGen's debut in the Edmonton Pride Parade! We were excited to be one of 60 entries - up from 35 last year - in the parade downtown along 102 Avenue and to participate in the celebrations on Churchill Square with 20,000 people.
Thank you to all those who joined in on the fun and helped us show our support.
NextGen plans to be a part of it again next year in an even bigger way, so watch for information in Spring 2012.

Speaking Event with Peter Kageyama (10 photos)
NextGen hosted a special speaking engagement with Peter Kageyama at Latitude 53 on June 21, 2011.
Peter is a co-founder and producer of the Creative Cities Summit, an interdisciplinary event that brings together practitioners around the big idea of the city. He has traveled abroad learning and speaking about issues of local community development, talent attraction and retention and creative industries development. He's also worked with contemporaries such as Richard Florida and Charles Landry.
He recently wrote a book called "For the Love of Cities" and he will be speaking about this and his insights about creative cities.

NextGen Participated in City Chase on May 28, 2011 for the first time as a host for one of the Chase Point Challenges.
Our challenge required participants to unscramble words from our website and then use the words in a song which teams had to sing in specific music genre (rock n roll, rap, country, opera).
It was a fun day and we hope to be part of City Chase next year.

Edmonton Community Challenge (189 photos)
Community leagues from all over the city participated in the NextGen Edmonton Community Challenge presented by Boardwalk Rental Communities from June 3 - June 5, 2011 to win prizes and 3 community funds. Thank you to everyone who participated and volunteered at the event.
Congratulations to the winning Community Leagues:
1st place: Southwood Community League (won $5,000)
2nd place: Rosslyn Community League (won $3,000)
3rd place: Prince Rupert Community League (won $2,000)
4th place: Beacon Heights (won the Community Cup)
The funds will go towards a Community League project that benefits the local neighbourhood!

We launched our new logo, designed by the Advertising Club of Edmonton and our website at the Muttart Conservatory on May 12, 2011.

Candi(date) Federal Election (11 photos)
Thanks to everyone who attended CANDI(DATE) on April 20, 2011. The event featured Edmonton Centre federal electoral district candidates from the: Conservative Party of Canada (Laurie Hawn), Green Party of Canada (David Parker), Liberal Party of Canada (Mary MacDonald), Marxist-Leninist Party of Canada (Peggy Morton), New Democrat Party of Canada (Lewis Cardinal),
and the Pirate Party of Canada (Mikkel Paulson).
And special thanks to InterVivos who partnered with us, NextGen on this event.
We heard lots of positive feedback from attendees, both candidates and voters, about the opportunity to "date" and meet face-to-face, and the conversations and dialogue that these dates started. We hosted a volunteer info session for all our current volunteers and members at the Art Gallery of Alberta on March 23, 2011.
After the session, we treated the volunteers to a private tour of the AGA.

Next Gen hosted an info session on March 21, 2011 at City Hall to learn more about the Edmonton City Centre Airport's Redevelopment. Executive Director Phil Sande provided a great overview on the future of the development.
Public consultations for this project will begin in the fall once a design concept has been chosen and approved by City Council

Pecha Kucha Night 9 took place on March 4, 2011 at the Royal Alberta Museum Theatre. There was truly a wide range of interesting presentations from storytelling to Edmonton's local arts scene to urban planning and zombies and the importance of local food and much more.

Community Challenge` (24 photos)
Over 50 interested young people came to meet with 30 seasoned community league executives in a session facilitated by the Edmonton Next Generation Special Projects Committee and the EFCL. Discussion was focused around helping leagues become more welcoming and more engaged with people under 40- a target demographic identified by leagues last year in the CLIPS survey.
